Volume is much lower than in other applications

This is due to a bug in GStreamer's equalizer plugin (which is fixed in gst-plugins-bad CVS). If you do not use the equalizer, you can run exaile with the --no-equalizer option to disable it, or you can just move all the sliders in the equalizer to the top position.

Can't find album art

If Exaile can't locate album art, it's most likely because you are using a version of Exaile that was released prior to Amazon's web API change. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade to Exaile 0.2.10 or above.

Rating stars are no longer shown in rating column

This problem exists when Exaile is run with new GTK+ versions (e.g. the one in Ubuntu Gusty), and only affects Exaile 0.2.10. Upgrading to 0.2.11 (or above) should fix this problem.

Where's global shortcuts to control Exaile on KDE

Gnome multimedia keys plugin works only on Gnome, and X multimedia keys plugin is incompatible to Exaile 0.3. But you can enable MPRIS plugin in Exaile and define custom shortcuts in KDE control panel - here's detailed description

I don't like Exaile, what should I do?

You don't have to like Exaile... that's a big part of the reason I feel that Open Source is the way to go. If Exaile just isn't the player for you, here are some other fine options:

  • QuodLibet - A player written in Python. Comes with a VERY cool tag editor
  • Listen - Another player written in Python.
  • Amarok - A very robust and eye pleasing player, written for KDE.
  • Songbird - A very promising multi-platform player that's fully skinnable.
  • BMPx - A lightweight player written in C++.
