Exaile:About
From Exaile
Random Exaile Tidbits
Exaile was started in March, 2006 by me (Adam Olsen, aka synic). At the time, I was fed up with Amarok crashing all the time, so, I decided to start a new project that would better fit into the Gnome environment I was using. Very early versions of Exaile were written in wxPython and can still be found in the archive at http://www.exaile.org/files. The project moved away from wx because of the strange and confusing API, and because of some drag & drop bugs that would cause X to lock completely.
Random Trivia
- Exaile is my second python project (my first being an IRC bot), and second GUI project (the first being a Jabber client written in Java JBother).
- The first song ever played in Exaile was "ATB - Underwater World" from the "Movin' Melodies" album. Not that I thought this song was any good, it was just the first in my collection at the time. Now, I actually like this song because it reminds me of the early days of coding Exaile. I would start the player up, and always play a few seconds of that song just to test something.
- I didn't know about similar players when I started Exaile, including Listen, Quodlibet, and Banshee. Once I found out about these players, I almost stopped working on Exaile. Since then, I have taken a lot of code and ideas from these projects (thanks guys).
- Exaile is named after a very cool psy/trance artist. You can find their webpage here: http://www.exaile.com
